Those with Hermansky-Pudlak Syndrome or Chediak-Higashi Syndrome who are on Medicare (different from Medicaid) should be aware that the open enrollment season is coming earlier this year. It will start on Oct. 15th and end Dec. 7th.
It is only during open enrollment that you can make changes to your Medicare coverage, drug plan, or other supplemental policies. (If you’ve been on Medicare less than six months, you may have more time. You should check with Medicare yourself.)
Medicare requires recipients to carry a “Plan D” to cover the costs of medication. If you can’t afford it, contact your local social security office. You may qualify for programs to help with the cost.
If you have a “Plan C Medicare Advantage Plan” you may choose to remain with your current plan, choose another, or switch to straight Medicare.
It’s important to review your individual medical needs before making a decision about which plan is best for you.
For more information, or assistance, go to www.medicare.gov, call the 1-800-MEDICARE hotline, or consult with a local State Health Insurance Assistance Program (SHIP) for help.
