One of the places we visited while doing outreach in Puerto Rico was San Juan Bautista Medical School. These pictures are from Donna's lecture to the medical school classes of 2013 and 2015. They seemed very touched by her presentation and several students approached the Network about working on school projects related to HPS. Of course, we all know how touching Donna can be. After the lecture, Ashley, Mervin, Yeidyly and I all volunteered our eyes so that the medical students could see what nystagmus and transillumination looks like. It was quite funny. No one really had a pin light on them (they weren't expecting to conduct exams at the lecture) so the students were trying to use flashlights built into their mobile phones.
I personally felt very encouraged and moved by the interest demonstrated by both the faculty and the students at the school. Now, we have to follow up on that momentum!
