Researchers from Dr. William Gahl’s lab at the National Institutes of Health have published a paper in the June 10, 2011 issue of the American Journal of Human Genetics announcing that they have found a new gene in humans that can cause Hermansky-Pudlak Syndrome.
The new gene is HPS type 9 and was found in an infant of Indian heritage. The long-term clinical manifestations at this time are unknown.
