My back porch has been hanging over my head all summer. The one thing that makes Kansas City different from pretty much most of Kansas is that we have lots of trees and lots of moisture - much more like the East Coast than you'd imagine. That means that everything and anything grows here.
My apartment is on the ground level and has a nice patio area. It's one of the things I liked about it when I rented it - although that was before HPS, asthma etc. These long strands of ivy grow everywhere, over the fence, up the trees etc. I know they're not good for the trees or the fence, but they're so pretty. The problem is they do grow everywhere, including right over my patio.
That patio has looked like a jungle for msot of the summer. I keep my blinds closed mostly because of the glare, but also, even when it's nice, I can't stand to look at the mess out there. When I get out to try to cut it back, it's not long before my allergies are kicking in. I get hives and I get very, very short of breath. I can sit out there okay (unless the grass has been mowed) but once I start interacting with that ivy it's all over.
So, I've put it off, and put it off. Now, the weather is cool and soon the leaves are going to start falling and need to be cleaned up as well.
Thus, Sunday I decided to take the respitory leap and have a wack at the jungle. When I opened the door much to my surprise someone had cut back all the ivy! It was clipped neatly and all the scraps were picked up and the patio swept. I almost started crying.
I'm not sure who did it, and I'm a bit embarrassed that someone had to take it upon themselves to do it - but I am sooooo sooo grateful! I don't know if it was my landlord (I'd asked to borrow his weed wacker and he never got back to me on it - so maybe the idea of a blind lady wacking at the weeds was too much for him - grin). It also might have been some friends who know this has worried me all summer.
Who ever you are ivy fairy, THANK YOU! You have no idea how much I appreciate it!
